Ignou Launches Pg Diploma in Food Safety and Quality Management

In another joint initiative, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), have launched a one-year post-graduate diploma programme in Food Safety and Quality Management. The programme was officially launched by Jairam Ramesh, Minister of State for Commerce, at a function held at IGNOU in New Delhi. In his inaugural address, the minister said that food safety and quality had become important issues not only for food products meant for exports to overseas markets, but also for the domestic market as more and more people are getting aware of the safety and hygiene aspects of food products.
According to APEDA, the objective of the programme is to develop professionals for development, implementation and auditing of Food Safety and Quality Management for the food processing sector in India. The programme comprising eight courses covers all aspects of food safety and quality, including national and international laws and standards such as GHP, GMP, HACCP, ISO 9001, 22000, 14000 and 17025.
The curriculum has been designed and developed by specialists in the field of Food Safety and Quality Management from various organisations across India. After completing this programme, the successful candidates would be able to pursue a career in industries like food, hospitality, retail, etc. as quality control / assurance professionals.
The programme will be imparted through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and be backed up by practical classes and counseling sessions arranged through the programme study centres of IGNOU in India.
